South Asia is a priority region for CCAFS and the program will soon expand its work to cover Southeast Asia. To prioritize research strategies and identify potential partners and sites in the new region, CCAFS and Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutes (APAARI) will organize an Expert Consultation on Prioritizing Adaptation and Mitigation Strategies for Agriculture in South and Southeast Asia involving various stakeholders.
Objectives of the Expert Consultation are:
To review the current state of understanding of the climate change impacts on the agriculture of the south and south-east Asian regions.
To help refine the research and development agenda in the region in terms of CCAFS objectives and Tsukuba Declaration related to a) adaptation to progressive climate change; b) adaptation through managing climate risk; c) pro-poor climate change mitigation and d) integration for decision making.
To develop regional engagement, partnership and communication strategy for linking knowledge with policy action at local/national/regional scale
To develop a project proposal for donor support related to addressing the regional adaptation priorities.
Expected participants will include:
Chiefs of agricultural research organizations of south and south-east Asian countries
Chiefs of the meteorology departments of south and south-east Asian countries
Director Generals of CGIAR centers in the region or their senior nominees
Agricultural and climate change representatives of SAARC and ASEAN
Negotiators from the south and south-east Asian countries responsible for discussion on adaptation and mitigation in agriculture in UNFCC.
CGIAR-CCAFS contact points/representatives with key interest in the region
Selected CCAFS and APAARI staff.
