Vacancy: Science Officer Pro-Poor Climate Change Mitigation

Deadline: 1 March, 2012. CCAFS seeks to find a new Science Officer within the theme 'Pro-Poor Climate Change Mitigation'. The Science Officer will help coordinate and conduct research contributing to the theme area. The position is based at the World Agroforestry Center's (ICRAF) headquarters in Nairobi.

Primary responsibilities will be:

  • Manage, synthesize and report information on Theme budget, program and partners. Liaise with partners and administrative staff at ICRAF, CIAT, and and the CCAFS Coordinating Unit at the University of Copenhagen, as needed. (30%)
  • Contribute to strategic research within Theme within own areas of expertise and facilitate partner development and regional research (50%).
  • Coordinate communications among partners and potential research users in the design, implementation and evaluation of research projects. Coordinate related websites, workshops and capacity building events. (10%)
  • Support fundraising, including preparation of proposals and reports to donors and other administrative support functions as needed. (10%)


The Science Officer will receive general supervision from the Theme Leader, but will exercise considerable independent judgment within flexible parameters.


Requirements:

  • PhD in a field related to climate change mitigation, ecosystem services, development economics, food security or agriculture, or a master’s degree and minimum of four years of relevant work experience involving research or research program management are required.
  • Excellent writing, editing and public speaking skills.   
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and proven ability to work collaboratively in cross cultural contexts.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and complete tasks with attention to detail and deadlines.
