We are:

Wageningen University & Research wishes to appoint a Global Communications and Knowledge Manager for the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) as soon as possible.

CCAFS is a CGIAR research program led by the International Centre for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) and Future Earth, hosted by Wageningen University & Research. CCAFS brings together the world’s best researchers in agricultural science, development research, climate science, and Earth System science, to identify and address the most important interactions, synergies and tradeoffs between climate change, agriculture and food security.

We are looking for:

The Global Communications and Knowledge Manager is responsible to develop and implement the CCAFS communications and knowledge management strategy in close consultation with the Head of Partnerships & Outreach. The position has three primary functions:

  1. Development of the global communications, media and outreach strategy, ensuring that all work aligns with the program’s global policy engagement activities and overall impact pathways. Specific responsibilities include managing the global communications and events budget; strategic planning and coordination of major events and campaigns; regular monitoring and evaluation; and participate in donor reporting and outreach.
  2. Develop and manage a range of knowledge management and communications platforms and processes, and ensure these are used to a high standard by all program partners. These including the global website, the open access publications repository (“cgspace”), social media channels, publications series, internal communication platforms, and branding.
  3. Facilitate a network of communications specialists working in CCAFS flagship programs, regions and projects, to ensure maximum impact of decentralized communications efforts, through collaboration, strategic planning, and effective use of CCAFS communications and knowledge management platforms, tools and processes.

We ask:

  • University degree at Master’s level in journalism, communications, international relations or a related discipline 3-5 years experience in communications and knowledge management
  • Demonstrated ability to develop outcome oriented communications and engagement strategies
  • Strong technical proficiency in website management, developing high quality publications, and managing open access publications repositories
  • Experience with platforms, systems and repositories, including SharePoint, Flickr, Slideshare,
  • Good knowledge of global agricultural research and development issues and policies is desirable
  • Must be fluent in written and spoken English

Some international travel is required. Knowledge and experience in working with the CGIAR and the linkages to the Global Change Community as well as the CCAFS target regions (West Africa, East Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia and Latin America) is highly desirable. Applicants should demonstrate their experience, capabilities and willingness to work as part of a global, diverse multinational team and travel internationally. Proficiency in other languages than English is desirable, particularly French and Spanish.

We offer:

Working hours are 38 hours per week. Employment and remuneration will be according to the Agreement CAO VSNU. The salary depends on knowledge and experience.
This position is open to non-Dutch residents and assistance with necessary permits is possible. An appointment will only be made if a qualified candidate is found.
