Julianna received her BA in American Studies in 1991 from the University of Notre Dame. She started her professional career as a teacher for under-resourced middle and high schools, and then joined the Peace Corps in 1998. She spent the next ten years in West Africa (mostly Niger and Ghana), where she developed, implemented and managed projects for the Peace Corps, CARE, Catholic Relief Services and Carana Corporation. She moved to Vermont in 2010 and was the special projects coordinator for Champlain Orchards before joining the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) at University of Vermont. Julianna speaks French and Hausa in addition to her native English.
