The Forests Asia Conference will discuss sustainable forest landscapes within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations' (ASEAN)

Asia has experienced rapid and sustained economic growth in recent decades. Yet alongside overall progress in development, the region is still home to roughly two thirds of the world’s poor and continues to be disproportionately affected by extreme weather events, with the majority of its rural population dependent on climate-sensitive sectors such as forestry, agriculture or fishing.

The Forests Asia Conference: Sustainable Landscapes for Green Growth in ASEAN is organized by the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) as part of global celebration on the International Day of Forests.

The conference will focus on governance, trade and investment in order to manage forests for green returns, climate change mitigation and adaptation, energy and low-carbon development, food security and nutrition, post-2015 sustainable development efforts.

Southeast Asian Ministers will be gathered in a bilateral and multilateral exchange with their global counterparts, civil society, business executives, researchers and development experts to seek new green-growth pathways in the region.

Informed by the latest research and best practices, Forests Asia will provide a platform for Ministers to share knowledge on how to move toward the development of sustainable landscapes for Southeast Asia’s green economy.
