Many countries in South and East Asia are expanding their dairy sectors to increase the self-sufficiency of dairy products. These efforts are made while at the same time global and national plans are made to reduce greenhouse gases (GHG) from livestock and dairy production. What does this mean for the dairy production on smallholder farms in Asia? That will be the topic of an international webinar about the reduction of greenhouse gases from these farms.

The webinar is organized by Wageningen University & Research (WUR), International Dairy Federation (IDF) and he CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS). In the past three years, CCAFS funded a research project on low-emission development in the dairy sector in Asia. We like to combine the presentation of the final results of this project with an overview of plans and experiences of various Asian countries about the reduction of GHG on smallholder dairy farms.

Speakers will share plans, research results and experiences about their GHG reduction efforts. We expect presenters from Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka. Next to that some speakers from global organizations (FAO, WorldBank and Global Research Alliance) will focus on options to implement emission reduction in dairy farms in Asia.
