Research & policy dialogue on climate change in agriculture in Africa
CCAFS is participating in a series of workshops on climate change in West and Central Africa, CO-hosted by the Council for Agricultural Research and Development (CORAF).
The workshops will be held on 7 and 9 December 2020 in order to establish a dialogue platform on climate-relevant agricultural research for development (AR4D) in West and Central Africa.
It is now very clear that an enabling policy environment is crucial for the uptake of research outputs. Moreover, policymakers need to be convinced and supported to make informed decisions that can foster the required policy environment. Therefore, there is a need for a conducive platform that can bring together researchers and policymakers to interact and create space for the use of science to boost agricultural production. The CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) and CORAF are capitalizing on previous efforts in convening researchers and policymakers to revitalize an effective engagement between them to meet the challenges of climate change.
CCAFS's Dr. Robert Zougmoré will give a keynote presentation entitled "Enabling dialogue between scientists and policymakers".
OBJECTIVES OF THE WORKSHOP
The specific objectives of the workshop are the following:
- Revitalize the West and Central Africa Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) Alliance
- Take stock of the national priorities based on nationally determined contributions (NDCs) and national agricultural investment plans (NAIPs) on climate-relevant agriculture in WCA
- Strengthen linkages between scientists and policymakers in WCA
