Standard Mobile - Kenya to gain from climate change, says report

CGIAR Climate's insight:
Variations in temperatures might not be such a bad thing for Kenyan farmers after all, a new report shows.
The report forms a chapter in a book titled East African Agriculture and Climate Change: A Comprehensive Analysis 2013 to be released soon.
While some areas of the country will become less productive, others will be more suitable for the cultivation of Kenya’s staple crop of maize, according to the report presented on Monday in Naivasha at the two-day Kenya’s National Adaptation Planning (NAP) conference.
The report relied on predictions utilising data from four different climate crop models in over 6,000 locations across the country. It showed that maize production in some regions could be boosted by more than 25 per cent.
