Policy and stakeholder analyses and engagement

To facilitate more inclusive and science-based policy processes, CCAFS Policies and Institutions Flagship has built a portfolio of innovative, national- to global level engagement processes that encourage joint policy solutions on climate-related challenges. In parallel to actual policy guidance, the Flagship is building an evidence base on what works, and what doesn't when linking science with policy processes.

Selected projects

The Policy Action for Climate Change Adaptation (PACCA) project, led by the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA), works in Uganda and Tanzania through stakeholder learning alliances that connect the scientific community with policy makers and development actors to jointly build climate-resilient food systems across scales.

A project led by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) is building South Asian governments’ capacity to prioritize the right climate-smart agriculture interventions for their countries.

Led by the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), the objective of a science‐policy exchange platform project in Ghana, Mali and Senegal, is to create a knowledge bank based on experiences and science to better mainstream climate change into district-level food-system policies.

Policy-makers in Viet Nam and Myanmar are receiving science-based support to enact policies that support rice production under climate change. The project's ambition to help mainstream climate change and food security issues into national policies is lead by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI).

A long-running project led by Bioversity International supports the development and implementation of international policies and laws that affect the availability and use of genetic resources for climate-smart agriculture.

An extensive global research team led by the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) works closely with governments and research institutes to ensure latest climate and agriculture science is used to inform climate policies in Latin America.
