Kitui, Samburu to become Kenya's breadbaskets - the Star

KITUI and Samburu will become Kenya's new maize breadbasket due to shifting weather patterns, according to climate change models released yesterday. Trans Nzoia will become too hot for any maize to grow there.

KITUI and Samburu will become Kenya's new maize breadbasket due to shifting weather patterns, according to climate change models released yesterday. Trans Nzoia will become too hot for any maize to grow there. This according to a new report by IFPRI, ASARECA and CCAFS.
The report was prepared by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFRI), ASARECA in partnership with CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS). It indicates that areas that maize will thrive in areas that were too cold for maize in the past.
