Infographic: What will 2030 look like for our food, people and planet?

Forget the post 2015 agenda. We need a pre-2030 agenda! Because how can you plan a journey until you know where you are heading?

With that in mind, Farming First has produced an infographic that takes a comprehensive look at what 2030 will look like for food, people and the planet, in an effort to inform the way that the new Sustainable Development Goals are created in 2015.

By highlighting where our planet is headed, and exposing where the challenges and opportunities lie, Farming First hope to encourage policy makers to develop the SDGs with end goals in mind.

Reduced crop growth rates due to a changing climate, are among the alarming statistics uncovered. Not only will 9 out of 10 of major crops see a decrease in growth rates, but prices of these crops could increase by up to 90%.

IMPACTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE BY 2030:

Global food demand is also examined – which is expected to rise by 35%. Only 9% of this extra food is able to come from increased land cultivation, and around 14% will come from intensification. But an enormous 77% must come from yield increases – signalling an area that must be focussed on.

CROP YIELD GROWTH BY 2030:

The infographic shows us where we are going, but where do we want to be? How can changes in the way we use our natural resources and investment in agricultural innovations help us get there?
