Integrated action across Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD+) and agriculture is necessary to achieve mitigation and food security outcomes. ‘Climate-smart’ agriculture that achieves the triple-win of food security, adaptation and mitigation will strengthen the impacts of REDD+; REDD+ must address the needs of smallholder farmers to avoid exacerbating poverty and local food insecurity. This session presents successful climate-smart agricultural practices and discusses innovative ways to combine incentives to agriculture with the strengthening of forest governance through REDD+. An official side event to the UNFCCC 34th session of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA).
