A new international Commission on Climate Change and Sustainable Agriculture is being established to help identify what policy changes and actions are needed now to help the world achieve sustainable agriculture that contributes to food security and poverty reduction, and helps respond to climate change adaptation and mitigation goals.
The commission will bring together existing knowledge to produce evidence and clear messages for senior politicians, policy makers, researchers, NGOs and the public on what actions are needed.
The commission is established by the Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security programme (CCAFS) – a strategic partnership of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and the Earth System Science Partnership (ESSP), with support of the Global Donor Platform for Rural Development.
The event will introduce plans for the Commission and outline next steps, and seek views from conference participants on these plans. The meeting will be chaired by Sir John Beddington, the United Kingdom Chief Scientist.
Lunch will be provided.
