Prosper Houessionon

Prosper Houessionon, a young researcher from Benin, joined CCAFS West Africa (ICRISAT-Mali) as Scientific Officer in June 2018. He holds an Agricultural Engineer degree with major in Rural Economics from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, University of Parakou (Benin) and MSc in Advanced Agricultural Economics and Policy from University Ouaga II (Burkina Faso).

Prior to joining CCFAS, he served as an Agroeconomist Consultant at the West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) Competence Center in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), where he contributed to research activities on climate-related institutional mapping, weather-indexed insurance, and climate change and land use impacts on livelihoods. From September 2015 to February 2016, he served as a Research Fellow with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) on a project of CGIAR Research Program on Water Land and Ecosystems (WLE), titled “Supporting investment decisions in water and land management across the rural-urban continuum in the Volta-Niger focal region”. In 2012, he served as a Research Assistant at the National Agricultural Research Institute of Benin, where he assisted in research proposal development, field work, data analysis and report writing.

Prosper has sound knowledge in climate change issues, climate-smart agriculture, and ecosystem services management, as well as a good command of fieldwork methods, data analysis, reporting, and scientific paper development. Apart from synthesizing and reviewing reports for CCAFS West Africa, Prosper will be developing survey instruments for socio-economic research on climate-smart agriculture and analyzing data.
