On Friday 25 October, Dr. Bruce Campbell, Director for the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), gave a 30-minute presentation on "Securing food in a warmer and more extreme world". Now you can watch the talk online and download his presentation.

How can our planet become food secure in a warmer world with more extreme weather? We need a portfolio of proven approaches, including technologies, climate information services and safety nets. But even this is not enough. Ultimately, the world's ability to adapt to climate change depends on having the right policies and institutions in place. On top of this, we need to consider how to reduce emissions from agriculture, which currently contributes between 14 to 24 percent of total global greenhouse gas emissions. While some adaptation activities in smallholder farming systems might result in reduced emissions as a co-benefit, finance and policy incentives can be used to achieve even more mitigation. What does this mean for research into development? A totally different way of functioning.

The presentation took place at the Swedish University of Agriculture Sciences (SLU)
