The CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), together with several Canadian agencies, is hosting a seminar on food security in a changing climate.
The CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), together with several Canadian agencies, is hosting a seminar on food security in a changing climate.
The partners include:
- Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)
- International Development Research Centre (IDRC)
- Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada
- The Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA)
Objectives:
- Promote improved understanding about what is needed to tackle the triple challenges of enhancing global food security, adapting to climate change and mitigating agriculture’s GHG emissions.
- To enhance partnerships amongst various Canadian agencies and CCAFS to tackle the challenges.
Prof Bruce Campbell, the Director of CCAFS, will examine the degree to which there are synergies amongst achieving food security, adapting to climate change and mitigating climate change. Dr Patti Kristjanson, a research leader with CCAFS, will describe several gender and climate change-related initiatives as well as present some initial findings regarding food security and adaptive capacity at the household level, using data collected in three regions of the world.
Other presentations, from speakers drawn from the above agencies, will cover the work of the Global Research Alliance for Agricultural Greenhouse Gases and farmer perspectives on what needs to happen if agriculture is to rise to the challenge of mitigating GHGs.
The seminar will be chaired by Dr Paul R. Samson, Director General of Multilateral Development Institutions Directorate (MDI) of the Multilateral and Global Programs Branch (MGPB), CIDA.
