Experts call for new approaches fo adapting agriculture to climate change - Coastweek -

CGIAR Climate's insight:
The researchers in a new study received in Nairobi on Saturday say getting farmers, communities, governments, donors and other stakeholders to embrace various adaptation strategies can end up being equally or more important than seeking higher levels of scientific certainty from a climate model: “In Kenya, as well as in many countries in Africa and elsewhere in the developing world, climate change is a critical policy priority,” said James Kinyangi, regional program leader for CCAFS in East Africa.

According to the study from CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), in Kenya for example, rain-fed agriculture contributes more than one-quarter of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
