COP21 side event: Scaling up climate-smart agriculture in the context of climate change
A dynamic and interactive discussion on scaling up climate-smart agriculture in the context of climate change.
Climate change is a universal and critical challenge to our efforts to attain global food security. It is already having an impact on agriculture and food security. Climate-smart agriculture (CSA) is not a sector, a one-community, one-country approach. Success in advancing climate smart agriculture depends on solid and mutual collaboration and joint action across national and regional boarders. The role of national governments in these processes is highly underlined and the importance of cooperation at the country level by sharing experiences is crucial.
This event will put forward a positive, actionable agenda on the climate-smart agriculture approach for countries and will call for a close collaboration with other stakeholder groups. The country cases represented by GACSA country members from different regions – Caribbean, African, Asian and European will show that a CSA approach is both context-specific and knowledge-intensive. The examples will show that taking a CSA approach is country specific oriented.
The event is co-organized by the Global Alliance for Climate-Smart Agriculture, in partnership with Norwegian NGO Bellona, the research institute CICERO and Yara International.
