University of Copenhagen is pleased to invite you to the second Copenhagen Sustainability Lecture on Monday the 7th of March, 2 – 4 pm, where we are proud to present the Vice President of Sustainable Development in the World Bank, Inger Andersen. Together with a panel consisting of Katherine Richardson, Tony Simons, Bruce Campbell and Ib Petersen, she will debate some of the challenges for a sustainable future.

The World Bank’s mission is to help developing countries achieve poverty reduction through programs and policies that support inclusive and sustainable development.  Inger Andersen has overall responsibility for the World Bank’s work in agriculture, climate change, the environment, energy, transport, urban development, social development, and water supply and sanitation. The Bank’s active lending portfolio in sustainable development currently stands at approximately US$105 billion. In other words, Inger Andersen has a considerable influence concerning how we can have a more sustainable development globally. With her lecture: "Greening development: Moving towards Rio+20 and beyond" she will give us some insights into her and the World Bank’s strategies for obtaining a greener future.

Prior to joining the World Bank, Inger Andersen worked at the United Nations in New York from 1987 to 1999 in a variety of positions, including managing projects addressing global environmental concerns, international waters, and renewable energy/climate change.  She has extensive overseas experience, notably in Sudan where she worked from 1983 to 1987, including three years with a non-governmental organization. Since July 2010, she has been Chair of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Fund Council. We are sure that Inger Andersen will use her extensive experience to give us a most interesting lecture.

Inger Andersens lecture is scheduled for approximately 20 minutes and will be followed by a panel debate with the following panelists:

Each panelist will have five minutes for an intervention after which the wider audience will have the opportunity to take part in the debate. University of Copenhagen will host a reception after the debate.
