Helping farmers make better choices
Learn about some of the ways in which we can tackle the challenges farmers face through the use of climate information and services.
Variable and changing climate adds uncertainty and risk to the challenges that smallholders face in their struggle to meet their food and livelihood needs. In our session, you’ll learn about the challenges they face every year that threaten their livelihood and well-being.
But farmers can make better management decisions by using information to understand and anticipate those risks. The knowledge, tools, and technology to help farmers make better, climate-smart choices exist.
In this session, you’ll learn about some of the ways in which we’re tackling the challenges farmers face –climate information and services, which are communicated though participatory approaches that give farmers a platform to voice their needs and concerns, interactive radio programs, and ICT solutions using SMS.
The delivery of climate information is more than dissemination. It must also ensure that women and other disadvantaged farmers benefit, build farmers’ capacity to understand and act on the information, and bring farmers’ voice into the co-design/co-production of services that meet their needs.
Also, the session will show how youth can engage in some of these approaches and communication tools as well as how youth may already be using them.
