Farming systems modeling: opportunities and challenges

Research on farming systems analysis aims to promote sustainable agricultural intensification in India.
South Asia is one of the most vulnerable regions to the impacts of climate change. In order to boost farmers' resilience, many climate-smart agricultural practices have been adopted in the region.
"Research aimed at understanding farming systems level opportunities and challenges has been conducted in order to promote sustainable agricultural intensification and develop a portfolio of climate-smart agricultural practices adapted to local conditions and diverse farm typologies," writes Tripti Agarwal in his recent blog story on the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) website.
Agarwal gives insights into the workshop that was held to share research on quantitative tools to explore future farming systems options in South Asia.

The workshop was organized by the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) and the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) and held at Wageningen University.
