CCAFS Climate-risk management Flagship: Program Manager

This position is located on the Lamont Campus in Rockland County, NY. 

The position will support the management of the IRI-led Climate Risk Management Flagship program of the CGIAR research program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), in a manner that achieves its vision and ambitious set of 2022 development outcome targets. The position will support the Flagship Leader, an IRI Senior Research Scientist, on a range of administrative, planning, reporting, resource mobilization, communication, and partner engagement activities; and represent the Flagship Leader as needed. The Flagship Leader and Flagship Program Manager are part of the international and inter-institutional leadership team of the CCAFS program. The position involves significant (8-12% of time) international travel. 

  • Ensure effective communication and coordination with the CCAFS Core Team, IRI staff, CGIAR Centers, and an international network of partner institutions. 
  • Manage workflow and monitor budgets of Flagship, Flagship-led projects, and commissioned partner contracts to ensure effective and timely delivery. 
  • Contribute to annual planning, reporting, publications and communication outputs. 
  • Monitor funding opportunities, and contribute to resource mobilization and proposal development. 
  • Facilitate and report on Flagship-led events. 
  • Participate in CCAFS Core Team meetings and processes. 
  • Contribute to knowledge outputs within the Program Manager's interests and expertise. 
  • Manages Flagship Leader core funds and Flagship-led external project funds. 
  • Supervises Administrative Assistant (for the 50% time related to CCAFS Flagship) on budget and contract issues. Reports to Senior Research Scientist/CCAFS Flagship Leader. Exercises independent judgment and action within parameters set by supervisor.

Minimum qualifications:

  • The position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a field of agriculture, international development, or a closely related discipline. 
  • Three to five years of relevant program management experience, involving agricultural research and development, is required. 
  • Program management experience should demonstrate excellence in: budget management, program and project planning, project workflow management, communications and partnership development, and report writing. 
  • The position requires excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including demonstrated ability to communicate a research agenda effectively in a range of forums, with partners with varying backgrounds and cultural contexts. 
  • Experience in partnering effectively with researchers and institutions in developing countries, including CGIAR Centers, is required. 
  • The successful candidate must be able to work effectively across a range of tasks, with a wide range of partners, in a complex and highly dynamic international program environment.
