Three new partnerships to raise the profile of agriculture and develop stronger agribusiness in Pacific

Building resilience and strengthening climate-change adaptation for fishers and farmers in the Pacific region

Long-term effects of climate change threaten the existence of many people in the Pacific. Recently, research has highlighted the extreme vulnerability of fisherfolk and farmers of this region to climate change impacts such as rising sea-levels, ocean acidification, and increased temperatures.

CTA and the Consortium of International Agricultural Research Centres (CGIAR) are partnering to initiate research and development (R&D) programmes to build resilience and strengthen adaptation to climate change and existing South–South exchange mechanisms. Funding will be provided by the CGIAR Fund, the New Zealand Aid Programme and the European Union.

CGIAR will be represented by two of its research programmes – Climate Change, Agriculture and Food  Security (CCAFS) and Aquatic Agricultural Systems (AAS). The Pacific programme will be led by
WorldFish, but with other CGIAR centres contributing.
