CCAFS @ COP25 | Climate change vulnerability and economic impacts in the agricultural sector in LAC
About the event
The agriculture sector is highly sensitive to changes in temperature and precipitation associated with both climate variability and longer-term climate change. For this reason, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), with the support of the CGIAR Research Programs on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) and Policy, Institutions and Markets (PIM), have teamed up to understand the potential impacts of climate change in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). A series of analyses were developed to examine climate change impact on key crops throughout the region as well as the corresponding economic impact of potential changes in agricultural productivity.
Objectives
The objective of this session is to present the key findings of this research and the recommendations forward looking to better adapt the agriculture sector to climate impacts, as well as discuss with agriculture-related national and international institutions how these type of studies are useful to support their decision-making and planning processes.
