Workshop on Future Scenarios to guide Sustainable Development in the Agricultural Sector of Costa Rica
The University for International Cooperation (UCI) will lead the Workshop on Future Scenarios to guide Sustainable Development in the Agricultural Sector of Costa Rica and its transition to a production low in emissions and resilient to climate change, which will bring together representatives of relevant institutions from private, public and academic institutions.
The workshop is organized by Costa Rica’s Ministry for Environment and Energy (MINAE), the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), the Department of Climate Change (DCC), the Global Environment Facility (GEF), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with the support of UCI, CCAFS and the University of Utrecht.
This is the second workshop after an initial session held between 29 and 30 August 2017. During the meeting, participants created four scenarios focused on the agricultural sector, food and nutritional security and livelihoods for Costa Rica in 2030.
In this second reunion, the same participants will analyze these scenarios. Using an opportunities and threats analysis, they will define a long-term vision for the agricultural sector that includes favorable conditions and critical areas for sustainable development.
CCAFS has organized scenario workshops in all of its regions, aiming to explore the key institutional and socio-economic uncertainties that influence decision-making processes. The socio-economic scenarios focus on analyzing and then improving the institutional framework that allows or restricts adaptation and mitigation methods implemented by CCAFS and its partners.
