World Congress on Agroforestry
The World Congress on Agroforestry is held in New Delhi, India, 10-14 February 2014, attracting researchers, senior politicians and donors, and major businesses with concerns for sustainable development, NGOs, farmer and youth groups.
The World Congress on Agroforestry 2014 is organized by the World Agroforestry Centre, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, the Indian Society of Agroforestry and Global Initiatives.
The congerss is the third of its kind, building on the legacy of the 2nd World Congress of Agroforestry in Nairobi, Kenya.
The World Congress on Agroforestry 2014 will act as a springboard to accelerate the impacts of agroforestry, build people's livelihoods, increase the vitality of the landscape and drive the adoption of large-scale innovations. It will shape the next steps in the field of integrative science, transformative change in landscapes, tree improvement, innovative tree-based value chains, debates on global and local sustainability, reform of land and tree tenure and holistic education.
The Congress will:
- Expand global awareness and understanding of agroforestry
- Share the current status of knowledge and practice of agroforestry and consolidate its research base
- Build support for agroforestry within governments, companies, academia, NGOs and the media
- Increase the engagement of the private sector.
The Congress will have an innovative structure, including:
- Pre-Congress meetings, social media platforms and web-based consultations
- Plenary keynotes and discussion panels, parallel sessions, posters and working groups, reporting and feedback sessions
- An agroforestry bazaar, networking opportunities, a share fair, buzz groups and a marketplace.
