The 36th sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI), the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA), the fifteenth session of the AWG-LCA, the seventeenth session of the AWG-KP and the first sessions of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action will take place between 14-25 May.

The Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) is one of two permanent subsidiary bodies to the Convention. It supports the work of the Conference of the Parties (COP) and the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP) through the provision of timely information and advice on scientific and technological matters as they relate to the Convention or the Kyoto Protocol. The SBSTA plays an important role as the link between the scientific information provided by expert sources and the policy-oriented needs of the COP.

Key areas of work for the SBSTA are the impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change; emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries; promoting the development and transfer of environmentally-friendly technologies; and conducting technical work to improve the guidelines for preparing and reviewing greenhouse gas emission inventories.

The CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) will be represented at the SBSTA via a booth during the first week and a side-event.

CCAFS will hold a side event with the title "Status of knowledge on how agriculture can contribute to adaptation and mitigation" on 18 May, 18:15 - 19:45 at the Ministry of Transport, Room: METRO. Convened together with the Southern African Confederation of Agricultural Unions (SACAU).

The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) will hold a side-event entitled "Insights in REDD+ realities: Politics, MRV and Benefit Sharing" on 16 May, 18:15 - 19:45 at the Ministry of Environment, Room: WIND

The Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) will hold the side-event "Building resilience for adaptation to climate change in the agricultural sectors" on 15 May, 20:00 - 21:30 at the Ministry of Transport, Room: METRO.
