CCAFS South Asia together with the International Food Policy Research Institute, IFPRI, South Asia Regional Office, will hold a one-day on the national crop insurance programme in New Delhi, India on April 1,2014.

The Government of India has recently initiated a comprehensive National Crop Insurance Program (NCIP) for implementation during the XIIth plan to insulate Indian agriculture against current and future climatic risks.
While NCIP provides several new opportunities and addresses earlier constraints, its operation may pose new challenges to government bodies, farmers as well as to the insurance industry. To review the challenges of implementing NCIP and to identify possible technological solutions, CGIAR Research program on Climate Change Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) together with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) is organizing a Workshop on “National Crop Insurance Programme: Challenges and Opportunities” on 1st April 2014 in Hotel Jaypee Vasant Conitnental, Munirka Marg, Basant Lok, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi. Senior government officials, and industry and research representatives will participate in the deliberations.
