The CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) is together with the Southern African Confederation of Agricultural Unions (SACAU) co-organizing a side-event entitled "Status of knowledge on how agriculture can contribute to adaptation and mitigation" that will be held during the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) meetings in Bonn, Germany.

The time set for the side-event is: 18 May, 18:15 - 19:45, Ministry of Transport, Room: METRO

To achieve food security while adapting to changing climatic conditions for agriculture, and also mitigating the major contribution of food systems to greenhouse gas emissions, needs joined-up knowledge, planning and action – both within and beyond SBSTA.

This side event will elucidate what we know already and where science can provide rapid policy-relevant new knowledge.  A moderated discussion will build on concise presentations that cover:

  • Analysis of submissions of views on agriculture to SBSTA
  • Adaptation options that make sense for farmers in different contexts
  • Advances in greenhouse gas measurement for farming systems and landscapes
  • Actions needed beyond agriculture to secure long-term food security
  • What is feasible for agriculture in SBSTA in the near term

Moderator and speakers:
James Kinyangi CGIAR Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS)
Henry Neufeldt World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF)
Manyewu Mutamba Southern African Confederation of Agricultural Unions (SACAU)
Sonja Vermeulen CGIAR Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS)
Mohammed Asaduzzaman Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies
