In addition to this, East Africa faces chronic food shortages that affect millions of people in the region, and the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) research programme on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) has identified east Africa as one of the developing world’s vulnerable areas where food supplies could be worst hit by climate change.
