| Assessing agricultural emissions baseline |
Background |
This research targets the application of remote sensing and biogeochemical modeling for assessment of agricultural GHG emissions at CCAFS benchmark sites and opportunities for GHG mitigation. |
Objectives |
To research the application of remote sensing and biogeochemical modeling for assessment of agricultural GHG emissions at CCAFS benchmark sites and opportunities for GHG mitigation |
Activities |
- refining methodologies for mapping land cover in support of crop modeling of soil carbon, greenhouse gas emissions and crop yields
- acquiring satellite data benchmark sites in East and West Africa
- remote sensing based maps of land cover and cropping systems for benchmark sites, selected by CCAFS based on availability of data, and
- DNDC modeling of GHG emissions and crop yields under current climate conditions and future climate change scenarios for 4-5 benchmark sites
- report on application of remote sensing and biogeochemical modeling for assessment of agricultural GHG emissions at CCAFS benchmark sites and opportunities for GHG mitigation
|
Outputs |
- Satellite data for all benchmark sites
- Image processing algorithms for mapping crops and land cover for GHG modeling.
- Site scales maps of agricultural and crops areas for 4-5 benchmark sites,
- DNDC model estimates of GHG, soil carbon sequestration and crop yields for 4-5 benchmark sites.
- a technical report, on application of remote sensing and biogeochemical modeling for assessment of agricultural GHG emissions at CCAFS benchmark sites and opportunities for GHG mitigation
