Issues related to agriculture were suspended during the latest UNFCCC climate change conference COP18, and are due to resume at the annual Bonn climate change conference scheduled for June 2013, also known as the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA). To develop and enhance a coordinated approach to negotiations in Bonn, the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) in partnership with the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) East Africa Region will bring together the African Group of Negotiators (AGN), agricultural and climate scientists and academia to review the status of negotiations on agriculture since COP 18 and prepare for the June 2013 session. The meeting is scheduled for 13-15 February 2013 in Arusha, Tanzania, and it will be a closed meeting as participants will be drawn from the AGN, research institutions, academia/universities and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), from all the 8 sub regions of the African Union Commission (AUC).

Expected Output

Common position on key issues relating to agriculture that will inform the African position during the conference will be addressed, and in addition, agree on a strategy that will ensure that African issues are incorporated in the outcome.
