Introduction to scenarios, and their development as a component of CCAFS – presentations by John Ingram (JI), Andrew Ainslie (AA) and Polly Ericksen (PE)

Plenary discussion (questions and clarifications).

Session 2

3 Breakout Groups: What are the main drivers and their uncertainties in relation to food security and agriculture in the IGP in 2030?

  • 3 sets of most important 5 drivers and their uncertainties

Session 3

Report back and discussion

Establish consolidated list of drivers that are both important AND uncertain

Session 4

3 Breakout Groups: Establish 2-5 plausible futures for the IGP based on the consolidated list of drivers; what are the main features of each scenario and suggested names for each scenario?

  • Key features of 2 - 5 scenarios per group

Recap of Day 1/Tuesday

Report back from each group – presentation of the key features of the scenarios

Establish Consolidated list of 3 or 4 scenarios

Session 2

3-4 Breakout Groups: Begin to elaborate the narratives.

  • Main elements of narratives for each scenario with timeline

Session 3

Report back – Check for overlaps and sufficient contrasts

  • Agreed set of narratives for scenarios

Scenarios roadmap: Identify, recruit and charge small writing groups and/or individuals to further develop the narratives; timetable and scheduling of tasks; dates and venue for follow-up meeting

  • Agreed next steps

Session 4

Wrap up and evaluation of the Scenario development process over the past two days
