Article author Ibrahim Thiaw, Under Secretary General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, highlights the benefits of technology for rural women, but stresses the need for gender equitable land rights in order for women to take advantage of such innovations. Drawing on CCAFS research about agriculture's gender gap, the article also notes the need for innovators to consider the specific needs of rural women when developing and implementing technologies.
