COP21 Africa pavilion: Taking forward the implementation of national climate-smart agriculture programmes in East Africa
Event will take place at the African Pavillion which will run alongside COP21 in Paris.
This event will provide an opportunity to dialogue on the appropriate policy and financing mechanism to scale-up the adoption of climate-smart agriculture (CSA) practices in defined farming systems in Africa. The event will build on experiences drawn from the program on “supporting preparation of country CSA programs in five countries in eastern and southern Africa”. This program is the result of collaboration among partners namely; the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), the East African Community (EAC), the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) and the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS). The purpose of this program is to support countries to synergize their National Agricultural Investment Plans (NAIPs) and agricultural sector programmes with their respective National Climate Change Strategies and Action Plans. It is anticipated that the CSA programs will catalyse increased public-private sector investments in CSA Regional and Country Programs with a reach of more than 100,000 agricultural service providers benefitting 10 million smallholder farmers (including women and youth) and small-scale food producers by 2025.
