System shocks, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, illustrate the fragility of agriculture, food, and economic systems. Climate change will cause more shocks and, like the current pandemic, those with the fewest resources, including women, youth, the disabled, and indigenous groups, are often impacted most immediately and severely.

 

A transformative food system is only possible if opportunity, policy, financing, and innovation are built and distributed with inclusivity in mind. This includes equitable representation in policy-making spaces, building inclusive spaces for knowledge exchange, and using technology to connect people. Additionally, financing social movements should take into account “sustainable finance,” one where public subsidies and private investment prioritize long-term, inclusive benefits over short-term gains.  

 

Given this background, this session will focus on equitable policymaking, financing, and the intersection of agricultural subsidies and gender.
